In a surprising crossover event that challenges traditional predictions, Ubisoft has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing free extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the authorized release, "A mysterious confrontation draws protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where rumors of forbidden practices and monstrous metamorphoses echo through the darkness." The plot presents a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who charges the characters with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a secret cult.

The mission centers on "bizarre experiments and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The teaser showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser concludes with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Bonus Content

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana together with numerous artifacts hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps vehicle

Newest Free Story Content

This update also introduces the game's newest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe debuts a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Collaborations

This signifies not the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime properties. The series earlier showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
