Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
