Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG gets underway at the end of the week.

The English side has been without fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and another paceman to a side strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of his spell, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
