Former Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were under his care.

The Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Investigation

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the forty-five charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Authorities are urging anyone with concerns to contact the relevant police force.
