Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," it added.

It said debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
