Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-part season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
