The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit series wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
