The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
