The Three Lions to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they secure the anticipated passage for a championship hosted across the bulk of Britain and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an England men’s fixture since May 2016, when the visitors were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Rally

The event was launched at an ceremony in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the location by approximately 50 activists, who demanded Israel to be kicked out from global football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were displayed with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Fixture List

The opening game of the tournament will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will include Wales if they make it.

Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will attract families and help reach a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Venues and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the event’s nine venues. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a host city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“It will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the sport – its fervor and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million admissions, a record for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to supporters.
